Protein smoothies are on the menu every day in our house! They are great for breakfast, as post-workout fuel, or just as a snack throughout the day. I add fruit for sweetness and nutrition, protein powder to keep me feeling full longer and for muscle recovery after a workout, spinach and kale for the added serving of greens, flaxseed for fiber and omega 3 fatty acids, and rolled oats for fiber. If you aren’t a leafy green vegetable person, don’t worry! I promise you can’t taste the spinach and kale (my husband hates spinach and kale and drinks one of these smoothies every day)! I love Tone It Up’s vanilla protein powder because it’s plant based, non-GMO, gluten free, and tastes like a vanilla cupcake. Plus, it’s only $22.99 per tub at Target!

To make our favorite protein smoothie you will need:

Half of a ripe banana

½ cup of blueberries (we use organic frozen blueberries but fresh blueberries also work)

½ cup of my homemade unsweetened vanilla almond milk (if you don’t have homemade almond milk, you can use store-bought)

1 scoop of Tone It Up’s vanilla protein powder

1 handful of baby spinach (we buy organic baby spinach from Trader Joe’s)

1 handful of kale (we buy organic baby kale from Trader Joe’s)

¼ cup rolled oats (uncooked)

1 tablespoon flaxseed (or flaxseed meal)

2 handfuls of ice (which is about ten ice cubes)

These are super simple to make. I throw all of the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth! We like our smoothies thick. If you prefer your smoothie not as thick, you can decrease the amount of ice. You can also add other fruits. I top my smoothie off with a sprinkle of Purely Elizabeth granola, unsweetened coconut flakes, and roasted cocoa nibs.

You can also dump your smoothie into a bowl, add the toppings of your choice, and you have a delicious smoothie bowl!

I hope this is a hit in your house as well!

Alexandra Mann - Hi Tosha! I buy almost all of the protein smoothie ingredients at Trader Joe's. The protein powder is purchased at Target. I like to top my smoothie with Purely Elizabeth Granola which I buy at Whole Foods. Hope this helps!
Tosha - Where do you buy most of your ingredients?
